The Fentress County Quilt Trail Project

In early 2009, members of the Sew Sweet Quilters began discussing the possibility of developing a "Quilt Trail" in Fentress County. Group member Claudine Pinckley has been the leader in this project. She secured grant money for paints and materials, enlisted the students and the Art Depatment from York Institute to help with painting, encouraged barn and business owners to participate, and has finally been able to see the results of over a year's effort.

Squares were made in two sizes, 4' x 4', and 8' x 8'.

Members of the group also helped with preparation and painting of the quilt squares. Here, Bobby Ledbetter works on sanding the surface, prior to painting.

In June of 2010, the first barn quilt squares were ready to hang. Volunteer Electric Cooperative was kind enough to help with hanging the squares on barns and buildings. Here is Danny Williams of VEC, getting ready to hang the first section of quilt square on the the barn belonging to Dwight Dickson.

The 8' x 8' are hung in 4 sections.
